The Beginning Band is for students who have not had any previous instrumental training and would like to learn to play a band instrument as well as for students who would like a refresher course on instrument basics. Each student will perform with this group on campus during the course of the year. Students will also study instrumental techniques, performance practices, rehearsal and practice techniques, musical notation, musical terms, scales, and style as it relates to beginning band literature.
For Beginning Band parents and students:
Outfit Policy:
Every music group has a required performance attire (outfit) at Crittenden. The ensemble polo shirt may be acquired through the music department. Students must provide the appropriate dress pants/slacks/long dress skirt and black dress shoes. Any student who does come to a performance dressed in the required attire, may not be allowed to perform on stage and will result in a loss of points for that performance.
Performance Policy:
All performances are worth 50 pts. and are 20% of each student’s grade. There
are only three ways in which a student can be excused from a performance.
1.Family Emergency
2.Illness or Injury (that prevents the student from performing)
3.Religious holiday, ceremony or class.
* Please see the Performance and Events page for concert dates.
**All of these must be excused by a note from a parent or legal guardian. An alternate assignment will be completed by the student in order to make-up the points lost from an excused absence.
Practice Cards and Practice Assignments:
Each student is expected to practice and required to turn in a bi-monthly practice log (also called a "practice card"). Practice assignments are posted on the Google Classroom which automatically emails the students every time an assignment is posted. If you are a parent who would like access to the Google Classroom assignments, please e-mail Mrs. Miyata.
