The Guitar course is for students who have not had any previous instrumental training and would like to learn how to play acoustical guitar. Students will study acoustical guitar techniques, performance practices, rehearsal and practice techniques, musical notation, musical terms, scales, chords, and style as it relates to guitar literature. Students will participate in mock “concerts” during Trimester I & II in class to help prepare for the main public Guitar Showcase concert in Trimester III. The Guitar Showcase Concert is MANDATORY for all students.
For Guitar parents and students:
Performance Policy:
All performances are worth 50 pts. and are 40% of each student’s grade. There
are only three ways in which a student can be excused from a performance.
1.Family Emergency
2.Illness or Injury (that prevents the student from performing)
3.Religious holiday, ceremony or class.
* Please see the Performance and Events page for concert dates.
**All of these must be excused by a note from a parent or legal guardian. An alternate assignment will be completed by the student in order to make-up the points lost from an excused absence.
Practice Cards and Practice Assignments:
Each student is expected to practice and required to turn in a bi-monthly practice log (also called a "practice card"). Practice assignments are posted on the Google Classroom which automatically emails the students every time an assignment is posted. If you are a parent who would like access to the Google Classroom assignments, please e-mail Mrs. Miyata.
